It's January and here at Green Cottages we've had a busy Christmas and New Year.
Monique's passionate about baking and cookery and set up Green Cottages Kitchen; baking and cookery workshops in her own newly refurbished kitchen. Workshops include bread making; Sourdoughs, French and Italian breads and of course local specialities including Kentish Huffkins etc. There are several different scheduled workshops with numbers limited to maximum 6 participants.
Workshops are open to both guests and the public. If guests request a specific date or workshop content we will try to accommodate them subject to a minimum of 2 participants. The workshops are fun and interactive way to learn the skills and techniques starting at 10am and finishing around 4pm including a light lunch and refreshments and you get to take home your apron, recipe booklet with top tips and all your baked goodies. The workshops compliment our cottages business.
Monique's been fathoming out the new credit card machine and updating the website, Facebook and Instagram to include her baking workshops. She very pleased with her newly awarded food hygiene rating; 5 stars!
The decorations have been packed away and we've been busy taking bookings. Its certainly not a quiet month!
Our 2 charming self-catering holiday cottages are situated in the heart of the Kent village of Rodmersham Green, where we live, opposite the village pond, the village green and open countryside and orchards. This time of year the countryside looks spectacular on a frosty morning with the first signs of spring; buds and shoots emerging. The daffodils are soon to burst into flower.
The cottages were built in 1860 as farm workers cottages, for the surrounding fruit farms growing apples, pears, plums and cherries. Old Post Cottage later became the old post office and village shop.
Full of traditional features the cottages are the perfect base for exploring Kent throughout the year. Both our luxury cottages are awarded 4* and GTBS Gold. Old Post Cottage sleeps 4 (a double bedroom and a bunk bedroom) and Candy Cottage sleeps 3 (a double bedroom and single bedroom). Each cottage has two bedrooms elegantly decorated, providing a calm and peaceful ambience, with a cosy sitting room, separate dining room and private garden.
Both cottages are pet friendly and baby/toddler friendly.
Year round there's lots to see and do. Guests can literally fall out the front door and into the local village pub, the Fruiterers Arms, with its roaring fires, try out the steak on a stone or homemade pies.
The village shop and cafe just 5 doors down serves great cakes and light lunches and you can sit outside on a sunny day and soak up village life. Then there's the great outdoor, miles of footpaths right on your doorstep, across the village green and into the orchards. The no.1 cycle route is just down the road; cycling is a great way to see the North Kent Downs and the coast. We hire out bicycles for guest to explore the area. And of course they can book one of our fun baking workshops.
We take short stays (min.2 nights) and long stay bookings suiting those between house moves and on work assignments.
